Nick Reid

Nick Reid finished his A-Levels in the summer of 2015 and was unsure what to do next. He was looking to gain work experience but did not know what career path he wanted to take. He got in touch with HBTC to discuss apprenticeships and the options available to him that would enable him to start his career.

With HBTC’s support Nick secured an apprenticeship at Paramount Marble in Customer Service. Nick really valued the experience of working within a local business. When he began the apprenticeship, the role involved data input and learning to understand internal processes. Within a few months his confidence and knowledge had grown and he was assisting in the showroom and selling to customers face to face. He successfully completed his apprenticeship in 2016.

4 years on, Nick is now an Account Manager at KRL Group and manages a portfolio of over 100 clients. KRL Group is one of the longest established photocopying and printing firms in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. A huge part of his role is ensuring that his clients are happy with the service they receive and adapt to the changing needs of their business. He manages his diary to enable him to visit clients and prospective clients in and around Yorkshire. Nick’s apprenticeship gave him the opportunity to begin his career and he advises others to consider apprenticeships.

“Having the confidence to work with some of the biggest companies in the region would not have been possible, had I not learnt the smaller steps at the beginning of my journey.”

Nick also believes more employers should consider recruiting an apprentice.

“Seeing that person grow as an individual and mature throughout the whole process must be very rewarding. You never know, you could have your future business partner or successor sat staring you in the face.”
