When Lauren finished her studies at Wilberforce College, she got in touch with HBTC. She had seen posts about apprenticeship opportunities and wanted to find out more. She wanted to work towards qualifications, whilst gaining experience in the workplace and earning money. With the support of HBTC, Lauren secured a business apprenticeship at Riverside Property. Riverside Property is a family run business, which was established in Hull in 2004. They have an excellent local knowledge making them invaluable to landlords and vendors in the area. Initially, Lauren’s role at Riverside Property involved tasks such as typing up inventories, taking calls and filing. She enjoyed always having something new to learn and was keen to develop her skills.

Two years on and Lauren is still very happy in her role at Riverside Property. Her role has evolved and she now has taken on more responsibility. She is now dealing with the sales process and ensures sales go through as quickly as possible, which can be a tricky task. She encourages others to consider apprenticeships

“I would say do it! They can be beneficial in so many ways”.

Lauren has now secured permanent employment upon completion of her apprenticeship and looks to have a very successful career ahead.



Lauren believes the most important thing that she has developed during the apprenticeship is confidence.

“I had no confidence when I started and the apprenticeship has helped me develop this and I believe I have grown as a person”.

When she first started in the role she did not enjoy talking on the phone and would prefer sending emails to avoid this. Now she has gained knowledge and confidence, speaking to clients and communicating on the phone holds no fear.



Lauren’s manager, Claire Cleveland, has been impressed with Lauren’s development and contribution to the business.

“We have gained a star in the making. Lauren is always ready to take on new roles and gain more varied experience, taking new challenges in her stride which is essential to the growth of our business.”

Riverside have since successfully recruited further apprentices who are also making a positive impact. Claire encourages other employers who have the resources to develop people, to consider apprenticeship recruitment. She had some positive words for HBTC

“They are thorough, consistent and supportive. My experience to date has been very positive. This cannot be said for all providers”.
